A Report on Paul Zindel

Paul Zindel was born on May 15, 1936, in Staton Island, New York City. He grew up in the lower class society. His father was a law enforcement officer and provider for his family, but abandoned them long before Paul could remember. Paul’s mother served many occupations to support her broken family. However, she soon became a qualified nurse.  Paul himself was an outcast, since no one in school wanted to befriend him. His mistreatment turned him into an antisocialist. To put it all together, you can consider his childhood life miserable. Worst of all, during his junior years, Paul contracted tuberculosis, an extremely contagious disease that attacked the lungs. He was isolated in a sanitarium. One and a half years later, Paul was released, but still showed sigPaulns of the symptom.

Later in his life, Paul attended Wagner College and received a B.S. degree in 1958. He took chemistry and English courses. His English teacher recommended him on writing novels. Paul took his advice and started right away. He discovered that he had both the talent and the passion of writing. In 1959, Paul earned his M.S. and became a chemistry teacher. But that did not last long. About one year later, Paul resigned and decided to write magazines for teenagers. The job suited him well. He discovered that he had the knack for writing teenage novels.

His first novel was The Pigman. Within a short time, The Pigman sold over one million copies. His book was published as a bestseller in The New York Times. With this huge success, Paul Zindel wrote other books such as The Pigman’s Legacy, The Undertaker’s Gone Bananas, and much more. All of his books were about teenagers and their problems. Paul wrote them based on real life accounts of his own. The purpose of his writing was to ease off his miserable childhood. Paul’s books were frequently listed on  The New York Times  as bestsellers and gained much praises from magazines.

At the age of thirty-seven, Paul was married to Bonny. They gave birth to two children, David and Elizabeth. Paul and Bonny are living a peaceful and comfortable life in Manhattan with their children. Currently, Paul is sixty-three years old. David and Elizabeth are now young adults who haven’t decided which career to take on yet. Luckily they did not have to face their father’s misshapen teenage years. I think that they have a bright, but unknown future ahead of them.  This concludes my biography report.
