Do you think
young kids these days are terrorizing your property, vandalizing your home, and
easily get away with charges just because they are underaged? Parents, are you
getting charged for what your kids have done? Isn't it time to punish the bad
kids who are doing this to you? Well then, if you are tired of this, just join
our public address so that we could pass a new bill into the law.
Right
now, kids have to be 16 or above in order to be charged with crime. Why? Some
people say that kids under 16 do not know what they are doing when they are
committing a crime. This is definately untrue. Juveniles at the age of 9 know
it when they commit a crime or vandalize private property. They could tell
right from wrong. I asked 30 kids from the ages of 9 through 12 this question:
"Do you know what happens when you vandalize neighborhoods and get
caught?" 27 of them answered "Yes. You go to jail because it's a
crime." As you can see, they know what is a crime and what is not. Many
minors today are making their parents pay for what they have done while they
know what they are doing.
Now
is the time that bad kids get locked up for what they are responsible for. All kids who are 9 and above in age should
receive the penalties that adults get charged for when they commit a crime.
With this bill passed, the city will experience a more peaceful, quiet, and
crime-free enviroment.
Students,
are you tired of running the course every Wednesday? Do you feel like dropping
dead after running due to exhuastion? Shouldn't this part of the Physical
Education curriculum be eliminated? The District says that it is only healthy
to run. But if everytime you finish running, you feel weak and tired, why run?
I believe that running the track is not a neccessary part of P.E..
Seven
doctors recommend that jogging daily is healthy for you, as long as you don't
get exhuasted. But when we run, we all get tired and exhuasted, which is not
good for our health. Over two thirds of this school is not physically fit to
run. Therefore, running according to the district only damages our health. We
don't get any healthier after we run the Mile or the Aerobic-runs. Neither do
we live any longer than we will now. I have asked a Doctor: "Does running
a mile every week improve our physical conditions?" He answered: "It
depends. If you are fit to run it, than surely it would be good for you."
As I stated earlier, two-thirds of the school are not fit for running.
If
running is so difficult for students to handle and they are not essential to
our health, why run? The District should terminate the track activities for the
schools. Young students like us should not have to suffer one hour a week
running under the sun.
What
would you do in school if a kid in class pulls out a handgun and shoot you in
the back of your head? This doesn't sound very likely to happen, but the rate
of school shootouts these days are steadily increasing. More kids are cooking
up ideas of bringing a gun to school weekly. Many students who are endangered
don't know it until it is too late. You may be an unexpected casualty too. How
could we prevent this? I believe that metal detecting gates should be erected
at every main gate in the school. The smaller entrances into the school should
be condemned.
Why
metal detectors? Metal detecting gates will quickly identify hidden guns,
knives, and other objects that could be used as weapons. All that the students
have to do is walk, or even run through the gate into the school. If a weapon
is detected, an alarm will ring loudly, pinpointing the suspected student.
Staffs could go through the student for a closer inspection. Now the danger is
eliminated. Why didn't we do this before the shootings occurred? The district
said that is would be too expensive to install. The district would rather risk
the students' lives than spending a chip of their 92 million dollar budget. In
a usual school shooting, about nine lives are lost, including students and
teachers.
Metal detecting gates would benefit
everyone. Even parents would be insured. The ratio of students at risk to the money spent
installing the gates is well worth it. We should protect ourselves from the
ever increasing violence in our school. Therefore, I believe that metal
detecting gates should be installed into our school entrances. It would make a
great difference in school safety.
